This didn't fix my problem with Dot Net installation but it pointed me in the right direction. After finding two x86_Microsoft.VC90.??? folders with system.enterpriseservices in the name I thought I had found my solution but alas that did not fix the hang either. I was thinking that the solution had to be along those lines though so I kept poking around for other folders and files that were related to that damn system.enterpriseservices process and I was able to quickly find a corupt file in %systemroot%/windows/microsoft.net/assembly/gac32/system.enterpriseservices/v4.0_4.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a titled System.EnterpriseServices.Wrapper.dll along with System.EnterpriseServices.dll . I deleted the entire folder, did one more pass at the registry with CCleaner and shazam it installed just like it ought to. It was easy from there to complete the install of versions 1.0 through 4.0 along with all the SPs with out a single incident.
Thankyou so much for sharing. It would have taken me much longer to solve this one if you hadn't taken the time to post your experience.
Now if I could just figure out why Driver Cleaner .Net keeps erroring out with Unhandled exception "Collection cannot be null. Parameter name: c" I'd be one happy camper.

Wow, thanks.

I've been fighting this forever but I took a different approach. I know HP has issues with their bluetooth / wireless devices. I tried uninstalling the drivers and switching to Microsoft generic drivers. It seemed to help until today.

Dumpchk and BlueScreenView led me to suspect something is going on with the Juniper Networks program Odyssey Access Client. I'm not 100% sure this will fix the problem, but it shouldn't be hooked into the wired connection thats for sure.

Thanks!!

Excellent, this solved my problem. I installed a VPN client and then ran into this problem everyone time I started the VPC. Based on your post, I unbound the Green Bow VPN service from my network adapters and all was well. Well, it stops the VPN from working, but I can enable that when I need it.

Thanks!

Christine could you solve your issue somehow?

We are in the same boat. The option is unchecked for us however it is still giving us the same error.

thanks in advance.

That helped a lot to me, too. Thank you very much.
I do not think i have removed any environment variables - probably they were never added so do not blame the user.
